2010 Wrap UP

Wait! What? An entire year has gone by already? But I’m still trying to get over 2010!  Oh well, I guess it’s time to face the facts that one more year has zipped by as I sit here and try to remember all the cool stuff. Here goes!

Katie continues to enjoy dance and goes every weekend to the Wichita Children’s Dance Theater and takes acting and ballet as well. They wrapped up the first part of the year with a great musical called “Rock Around the Mouse.” She was great! (And we’re biased!) She is now in Kindergarten and her teacher says she is always smiling and singing. She’s actually looking forward to school each day. Oh how that will change when the classes expect more work and less play!

Patrick played T-ball again and had an awesome time! He was just about the fastest kid on the team and when he stopped throwing rocks and trying to tackle the runners, he actually did pretty well…good?…heck, great!  I’m the parent, I’m allowed to brag and/or embellish. He started the Second Grade. Wow! It seems like he was just in K-garten! He’s reading at a college level, or at least seems like it. He actually has to be told to put down a book and go play outside. Hmm. Sounds just like his Dad!

Patrick and Katie had a great summer. They spent so much time at different pools, that I think they grew gills! Each is a great swimmer and had a blast splashing and playing the days away.

My year was full of change as well. In August I left Open Arms Daycare where I had been the lead teacher of the Pre-Kindergarten class and was hired at the Kansas Humane Society to be their Director of Youth Education. It’s a new position and I'm having a blast teaching kids about animal safety, pet responsibility and how kindness and compassion towards all living things helps the world. Sounds like the perfect job for me, doesn’t it?

As part of the year of changes, Jay volunteered to take over the morning shift in late May, so now he’s working the classic grave yard shift. It helped us save money on daycare and he got to spend more time with the kids. But, the lack of sleep is tough to take. I hope the term “grave yard” shift doesn’t turn into a reality! He’s always seemed to suffered from a mild case of narcolepsy (LOL), but now he has a good reason to fall asleep at a moment’s notice..zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Just before we sent this, we found out that Jay’s morning show was ranked #1 in Wichita! We are very happy and hope this streak continues.

And it was a monumental year for both of us…as we hit the big 4-0! Was it just yesterday that we were both wearing acid-washed jeans and had long “big” hair? Time marches on, we’re just trying not to get trampled!

Resolutions for 2011... try to lose some weight, try to slow life down a bit, and try to get on this blog more often.  I'm going to be getting a new laptop, so I've got to remember all the places I want to hit on a daily basis... this is one I'm going to try to make it to more often.  I know I said that last year, but... hopefully, as with the other two resolutions, I'll try my best to be successful.
